LENT can be a joyful season in which, by our acts of almsgiving,
prayer and fast/abstinence we may be renewed in our covenant with God.
Lent begins February 22nd
Lenten Regulations
Law of Fast - Those who have reached the age of 18 and under 59 are bound by the Law of Fast
(one full meal, 2 smaller meals).
Law of Abstinence - Those over 14 are bound by the Law of Abstinence (no meat)
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of Fast and Abstinence. All Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence.
Those with medical conditions in which fasting may be harnful are not obliged to fast, but should perform some other
act of penance or charity.
Parents are to see to it that minors are encouraged to do acts of penance suitable to their age.
All of the Church Faithful are encouraged to do acts of penance suitable to their age.
As a general rule, a request for dispensation from the obligation of abstinence on Fridays of Lent will not be considered
unless some serious reason is present.
