Religious formation is a lifelong process. Its purpose is to make a person’s faith become living, conscious and active through the light of instruction. Catechists provide instruction to our students attending public school grades 1-8; prepare them for the sacraments and develop community through prayer and worship among the students and their families. The theme for faith formation this year is Living as Missionary Disciples with special emphasis on the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
The Second Vatican Council calls the family to live out their vocation as the “domestic church.” This expression is a recognition of the truth that the Christian family does not go to church, the Christian family is the Church. Parents play a vital role in forming their children as Catholics. A child’s first exposure to a lived faith of prayer, charity, virtue and catechesis (faith instruction) happens in the home. Religious instruction is not just something for priests and catechists, it is a call to share with your children the wisdom, peace and love you receive from God Himself through the Eucharist and other sacraments of the Church. We here at St. Angela Merici Parish are devoted to helping you more fully live your vocation as Catholic parents and our catechists see themselves as partners and resources to help your faith and your family grow in faith.
